The word " Glasnost " means openness. the word " peristrokia " means economic restructuring. Malkhail Gorbachev open up to the soviet union because first he was the president of Russia. he open up to them because then Russia can get fresh new ideas and improve their economic more.

Communism collapse in eastern Europe and the USSR because the leaders lost power of the countries. they also lost power because of the Warsaw pact. the people began to tear down the Wall because communist was no longer needed to separate the west and east sides. the soviet union collapse also and was not a communist anymore. it change because all of the countries stopped being communist and turn into capitalism and democratic.

Nelson Mandela and Apartheid

The word apartheid in my own words mean a social policy that doesn't let any other race except for white people to be involve in any kind of political and economic stuff of the country. Nelson Mandela was consider a hero in South Africa because he stop racism in there. The authors of these articles admire him because he didn't hate white people or any other kind he hated the government. He was the done who stopped racism and dream that all the race will live together in peace.

African Independence

Africa change from 1955 -19975 (20 years) because they were being control by the European countries. Africa was mostly control by England. But after knowing that England doesn't have that much power two of the most famous Africans leaders took control. This two leaders name Nelson Mandela and Jomo Kenyatta. This two this two leaders help Africa get its independence. After Africa gain its independence some of its countries renamed themselves. Like for example the country "Rhodesia" was renamed as Zimbabwe.

Film Lesson:"The Right Stuff"

In the film "The Right Stuff" US and the USSR were competing about NASA. The USSR were the first one to send a satelight into space. When the US heard about this they decided to send a monkey into space. But they send the monkey in to space the USSR send a man . So they ( the USSR) were the first one to send a man into space. the USSR were in the lead of the space program. a part in the film that remind me of the cold war was when the the mans were testing to fly the air plane.

NATO and The Warsaw Pact

NATO stands for north Atlantic treaty organization. This treaty was form if one of the countries in Europe or north America were to be attack and this treaty protected them and help them in the war. The Warsaw Pact was formed by the communist states in Eastern Europe. The Warsaw pact was to integrate the NATO pact. The NATO pact was form by 12 countries who were not communist countries. including the untied kingdom and the untied states and western Europe , etc.. the Warsaw pact was form by communist countries like the Soviet union and eastern Europe.

Film Lesson: "Schindler's List"

the film " Schindler list" was illustrated to show what happen in the Holocaust. the film show parts when the people where placed in trains so they an be taken to the camps. the part where a lot of dead children the were being pushed by two men was the most powerful part in the film. some pictures that would stay in my mind forever when this topic comes on mind is when there are a lot of dead people laying on the ground and there stuff all thrown to the ground. i found this film " Schindler list" more powerful. i do because i find this film more interesting then the other one (" night and fog").

film lesson: "Night and Fog"

when i saw the film " night and fog" my reaction was surprising and horror. i found this movie really surprising because it was like "oh my god did this really happen to all those innocent people." my other reaction was horror because i couldn't see some of the parts where there were a lot of dead people just laying on the ground. i found this film powerful because of all the information i got from it. night and fog can compare to the other film "Schindler's list" because they both say things about the holocaust. i found the Hollywood film more effectively . i do because it show more things that happen during the war.

the treaty of Versailles (ended WW I)

The Treaty of Versailles affected the Germans at the end of WW1. It was form by the Legion Nation. The Treaty was made to punish the Germans. Germany was blame for all the people who die. The Treaty was sign by the Legion of nation. Which were the U.S, England and Russia. It affected Germany because they had to pay billions of dollars to the countries that were damage. German began to be destroy because the money that they sent to the countries were meaning less. Germany had to give away some of it land because of the punishment and also there sea.

Some rules of the Treaty is that they had to pay the other countries and give away there lands and over see because of the damage they done. I think that the punishment was fair. I think this because Germany was the one who started the war and they did a lot of damage to other countries. I think they say this because Hitler appear after German was in its bad condition.

mustafa Kemal (Ataturk) and the Modernization of Turkey

Mustafa Kemal aka Ataturk modern turkey by changing the way they dress and taking away the little hat they wear in their heads called the fez. Mustafa wanted the Muslim people to dress like the Americans and Europeans. He change turkey by making the people wear different cloths and letting women have the right to vote. He also change turkey by taking away the religious laws and introducing the secular system. The new system mall all the people equal even if they were rich or poor. The word secular means things that are not regard. Just like religion or the cloths they wear with the hat.

film lesson "gandhi"

Gandhi did a lot of things to help Indians gain their independence. he went to study law in London and then went to South Africa as a barrister. while in South Africa he took part in a protest against the Transvaal government treatment of Indian settlers. after joining the congress movement Gandhi return to India and emerged as a one of the party leaders. Gandhi also influence Indians to buy Indians good instead of British stuff.

Gandhi believe in a non-violence . he encourage his followers to use the philosophy of non-violence against the British. he used the philosophy of non-violence while he was in the march to the village of sea. he used the philosophy when the British found out that the Indians were making their own salt. he did because when the British people came the Indian people lead them take them to jail or beat them up.
extra credit: i think the Independence was because of Gandhi. i think that because if Gandhi hasn't appear in India they would probably still be a British country. if gandhi never appear in India when the British hit the people the Indian people would hit them back and that why there would be more reason not to let them be Independence . it was Gandhi who let India free because he did form protest towards the British.
